Jodhpur arrival

Travel in india can be shit, but when you think that you at at your wits end, and capable of not feeling anything, you arrive in a place that transforms you in seconds with its magic. So here is Jodhpur, a place so filled with magic that almost my first breath in the old city is filled with lightness, Delhi leaving me as quickly as it had filled my senses with noise and stink and numbness. Here the light as perfect as in Hampi- I want to stay forever and take magical photos, the soothing blue color everywhere, noticeably friendly people, women in magnificent sari's disappearing into their mysterious ancient blue houses with gates of green and pearl, wall murals of Hindi legends, narrow streets full of donkeys, cow's, squirrels and children and a strange shanti atmosphere overlooked by the huge fort where hundreds of kites and eagles soar on the thermals. For those of you that know Taipan wall in the Grampians, the fort is a bastion of towering rock of similar dimensions, glowing orange in the sunset, sounds of Hindi, and Muslim chants and brass bands emanating from the city below.

It is not only me that is inspired by this place..."From the bastions of Jodhpur Fort one hears as the God's must hear from Olympus - the Gods to whom each separate word uttered in the innumerable peopled world below, comes up distinct and individual to be recorded in the books of omniscience." Aldous Huxley- Jesting Pilate 1926

I spent today exploring the amazing Fort and the old city market. The fort is brilliant, one of the best 4 in Rajasthan, with a superb museum of the old royal residences and their armoury. The turbaned security guards from Jaislemer are funny, trying to sell me opium, while the atmosphere is augmented by traditional flute and pipe players positioned around the fort. People still live in the tiny houses enclosed by the walls immune to the tourists it seems.

Ok better go for dinner. The whole town is Brahmin = vegetarian, and it is cooked slowly and with style, and it is a joy to eat here.

More soon
